Dr. R. Jeffrey Barr is the Chief Scientist & Head of Product at SatFish. Jeff holds a PhD in marine biology from the Joint Doctoral Program at UC Davis and San Diego State University, where he specialized in using oceanography and bottom structure to understand fish population dynamics and make predictive models for fisheries management.


He is a lifelong fisherman with a passion for chasing down tuna, mahi, wahoo, yellowtail, and white seabass, both by rod & reel and spearfishing. 

Jeff has worked in the sportfishing media and fishing reports business in Southern California since the late ‘90s, most recently with BD Outdoors and Fishdope, matching up daily catch locations with sea surface temperature and chlorophyll maps to track gamefish movements and keep anglers on the bite.

He now brings his experience and knowledge to SatFish, building on the success of Fishdope in Southern California to share these invaluable maps and data products with anglers nationwide.
