Did you Know The Western Edge of the Florida Current has completely split—and when will it get back to normal? Who knows.

Normally, the stream squeezes shoreward in the winter (sitting just 4 NM off Fowey Rocks, 4.2 NM off Carysfort, and 19.9 NM off the Dry Tortugas) before relaxing seaward in the spring to create that classic "soft edge."

However, right now, we are witnessing a massive East–West Divergence caused by a Loop Current eddy reorganizing the entire flow:

• The Upper/Middle Keys are pinched IN: Carysfort rushed from 7.0 NM down to 2.9 NM, Molasses pulled in to 4.3 NM, and Alligator to 7.8 NM

• Miami & The Far West pushed OFFSHORE: Fowey Rocks blew out from 3.8 NM to 15.6 NM and the Dry Tortugas ballooned to an incredible 43.2 NM out.

If you're fishing Miami or the Lower Keys expecting normal water, you're sitting in a wide, cool gap. If you're in the Upper Keys, you're fighting a very clean blue-water push on the reef edge.
